A silk embroidered souvenir showing the Allied flags of Belgium, Italy, UK, France, Russia, Australia and Japan (left to right). In the centre is a victory wreath with a fasces, representing law and order, with the word 'Egypt' centred.Across the top is stitched "Souvenir of Egypt 1916", and the bottom "From D Llewellyn L/CPL Military Foot Police. O.A.S".Possibly made by Ottoman prisoners of war on the commission of Llewellyn.

Cultural Narrative: 

David Alfred ("Dai") Llewellyn, (b. Bridgend 1890, d.1930) was a policeman in the Glamorganshire Constabulary prior to joining the Military Foot Police in December 1915.He served in Egypt, believed to have been stationed in Helouan (Helwan), near Cairo, and his duties included guarding Ottoman Turk prisoners of war.He later served on the Western Front, no date given.(Some of the details of the photographs have been provided by the donor).
